The St Mary’s P&F school canteen is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for recess and lunch.
The canteen relies on the assistance of mothers, grandmothers or anyone who is able to volunteer a day or two. The day generally commences at around 9.15am and finishes at approximately 2.30pm. It is open for morning tea, where canteen volunteers and cooking mums provide a donation of food (eg cake, biscuits, garlic bread, fruit .....). The canteen is then open again at lunchtime where lunch orders are filled and students have the opportunity to buy other food such as frozen yoghurts, honey soy chips, remaining morning tea.
A ‘cooking roster is available for volunteers who can’t assist on the canteen but would like to contribute. A cooking volunteer is rostered on canteen days to provide some home-made morning tea for students.
The canteen is a major fundraiser for St Marys’. All money spent at the canteen is returned back to the students through improvements to the school. The canteen raised over $7,000 last year and this money assisted the P&F to purchase sport and occupational therapy equipment and will also go towards maintaining and developing the school grounds.
The children love having someone they know rostered on canteen and it is a great way of seeing what goes on in the playground at morning tea and lunchtime!! It is also a great way to get to know other children and teachers and it is not a particularly stressful job! For safety reasons in the kitchen, younger siblings are not allowed to assist mums in the canteen!
If you would like to volunteer to work on the canteen or have your name added to the cooking roster please contact the St Marys’ P & F Canteen Managers – Nicole Honeysett and Nicole Risely via the school office.
